Life can be seen as a hero's journey, (see
Joseph Campbell The Hero With the Thousand Faces). Each of us
hears countless greater or lesser calls inviting us into the excitement
In denial of these calls, we can find
ourselves frozen or incapacitated.
In response to these calls we experience the
never ending challenges of finding support and direction, passing the
monsters who would sustain our entropy, and keep us from fulfillment.
We might gestate for an eternity in the
darkness of the belly of the whale, then ride the seemingly endless
roller coaster of difficult trials, briefly catching the boon -- that
gold ring, or the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, only to hasten
beyond any celebration.
We might be consumed by more monster
guardians of the threshold waiting to speed our demise.
We may even return home wanting to share
this miracle experience, only to hear yet another call and find
ourselves rushing another round.
Well my hero and heroin, where on this
journey do you find yourselves?
