Invitation
to "Weaving the Dream"
YOU ARE INVITED
to join our Global
Family in a simple, joyful and co-creative Birthday Party of
goodwill for our dear Mother Earth. Please share this invitation with everyone
you know and begin planning now for a deeply meaningful celebration for
our New Millennium.
An interactive "Weaving the Dream!" Millennium Celebration is being planned so that it will occur simultaneously "anywhere and
everywhere" on the planet, mid-year, 2000 A.D., (The time frame is
still evolving.) This most unique and organic "global happening" is being created as a sacred and meaningful visual metaphor. We
wish to acknowledge and honor that we understand our planet is indeed an
interconnected, interlinked, and interdependent community of "seamless
fabric"! This international grassroots birthday "Gifting"
is for "just folks everywhere" from all over our planet.
Its purpose is to honor, celebrate and sacralize our possible future as
a harmonious and co-creative world community in our New Millennium.
Basic Idea
The basic idea for this worldwide event is to actually "Weave
the Dream!" by co-creating the symbol of our "New Fabric"
in a Sacred Circle" pattern! The two symbols of "Weaving"
and a "Sacred Circle" have been chosen because they have appeared
continuously as art forms around the world since the dawn of civilization.
This "Weaving the Dream!" has been designed for small
celebratory groups of 50 - 200+ people (your schools, churches, clubs,
family reunions, camps, small villages, etc.) but can easily be enlarged
to accommodate however many more guests are to be invited (even for a large
city). Just as easily individuals, couples, partners or families can participate
by creating a smaller weave suited for their size group.
The "Sacred Circle" pattern consists of an easily constructed
circle with a diameter of about 10 feet. This "standing circle"
is made with 12 pairs of 7 foot tall bamboo poles (or a substitute).
These are secured into the ground by rebars (short rods of reinforcing
steel) . Each pole is topped with a pennant (or flag) of different
varieties of colorful cloth. Around this structure a volleyball net
about 30' long and 4' wide is secured between the 12 pairs of poles.
This creates an opening space for a Gateway to the center of the circle.
The net then becomes the background "warp" and "weft"
for the interactive "weaving" of each guest's piece of colorful
cloth! A taller pole is placed in the very center of the Sacred Circle,
topped with some special pennant (or flag) for this occasion. Other
additional celebratory items, such as lengths of colorful ribbons
or a pinwheel to whirl in the wind can be added. Once the necessary
materials have been gathered the actual construction of this standing
Sacred Circle requires about one hour.
Invited Guests
Each invited guest will be asked to bring his/her own selected "gift"
of cloth, to be co-creatively "woven" into this Sacred Circle.
These colorful "gifts" will consist of ANY piece (peace) of cloth
about 3-4 feet long x 4-12 inches wide. It might be a scarf, a man's tie,
a piece of torn T-shirt, a marvelous hand-woven offering, a remnant from
an ancestor's or loved one's belongings, or any wondrous or simple creation.
Hopefully each person will select something which will have special meaning
for that individual. We trust your selection experience will enhance the
sense of participation in this sacred event.
At the appropriate synchronized time these cloth "peace gifts"
will all be "woven" via the netting (as an organic free form),
thus co-creating the metaphoric symbol of all human spirits interlinking
as a "healed and whole planet". Poetry, music and folk dance
could be wonderful additions for the event! Other ideas might include a
potluck meal and the sharing of positive visions for the New Millennium.
Time Frame
Ideally "Weaving the Dream!" will occur simultaneously
at many locations around the planet (time frame being pondered and will
be announced). The Party time itself might take anywhere between 4-5 hours
to one whole day, or perhaps even a week.
"Weaving the Dream!" by the Internet!
Because this is a grassroots effort "of the people, by the people
and for the people", the written plans for "Weaving the Dream!"
into the New Millennium are being freely shared here via the Internet!
Anyone who is thus interested in helping to co-create this unique world
wide event may download the written information, reprint it to share,
or pass it on to your own mailing list of friends and associates via the
internet.
